As something of an amateur guitarist myself, I appreciate classical guitar on a different level, perhaps because I understand the complexity of it. May give learning it a go if I can get over having claws for fingernails on my right hand for a few months.

You should absolutely pick up the classical guitar. And unless you're looking to play professionally, there's no reason to have claws haha. Many guitarists didn't use their nails, including Tarrega in his later years, Sor, Weiss, etc.
Ahh, I see. I'll look into it, I remember learning the Spanish Romanza years ago to impress girls because it was easy to play even after drinking and sounds impressive, and that's about as far as I went with it haha
